Our reading class is every morning and includes skills such as comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and enlarging students vocabulary. Using our texts, novel studies, and our own free choice books, we are engaged in reading. Students are expected to read for at least 30 minutes each night and keep a daily book log of books read.

Blood on the River -- First Quarter Novel
In order to better understand our country's beginnings, we will read Blood on the River as a class during the first quarter. This historical fiction novel takes place in Jamestown, Virginia in the early 1600's.
September 28, 2012 -- We finished reading Blood on the River in class today and no one wanted it to end. Students wished there was a part 2! If only we could visit Jamestown for our Fall Break!

A Boy At War -- 3rd Quarter Class Novel
As we learn about and discuss various wars our country has been involved in, we will be reading about the attack on Pearl Harbor, which was the beginning of the United States involvement in World War II.
We the People - 3rd/4th Quarter Civics book
While we are learning about the Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Civil War, we will be reading We the People, which is a civics book for 5th graders. This book helps us to understand our role in society and what makes America such an incredible country to live in.
