Vasco Nunez De Balboa was born in 1475 at Jerez de las Caballeros, Spain. He is famous for discovering the Pacific Ocean on September 25,1513. Vasco also found a successful shortcut between North and South America.
Vasco's father was Don Nuno Arias de Balboa and his mother was a ladyof Badajoz in sothern Spain. He was the third of four boys. Balboa grew up in a small town near the Portugese border. He did not have an easy life. de Balboa was not married, but had a mistress, the daughter of his Indian friend, Chief Chima, and no known children. Sadly de Balboa did not have an easy life.
The most interesting thing that I learned about Vasco Nunez de Balboa was that he is remembered today as one of the greatest explorer of the Americas. de Balboa was also a brave solider, peacemaker, diplomat, and state builder. Sadly Vasco died at age 44 years old in 1519.

Vasco Nunez de Balboa explored the New World with Rodrigo de Bastidas. However, When they reached an unknown island, they were forced to abandon their ship. Sadly, they were left penniless.
Balboa amazingly sighted the Pacific Ocean on September 25, 1513. However, this body of water was not called the Pacific Ocean. Another explorer named it the Pacific Ocean. Pacific means "peaceful".He also led an expedition Through Central America and claimed that the Pacific Ocean should be put under the power of Spain.
The most interesting piece of information that I learned is that Balboa discovered the Pacific Ocean but it was not called the Pacific Ocean, yet. Fernidand Magellan named it Pacific because Pacific means peaceful.
Resources: The resource that was used the most is the internet, mostly on google.com.
