Juan Ponce de Leon is from Spain and was born in Tierra de Campos Palencia, Spain around 1460. On July 1521, Juan Ponce de Leon was attacked by Indians and was wounded by a poison arrow his stomach. He died from the wounds.
Famous Explorations
Juan Ponce de Leon is famous for several reasons. He is the first to discover Florida. He gave the name to this place which was St. Augustine, Florida. He found beautiful flowers growing there. He was searching for the Island of the Bimini or the the Fountain of Youth. Drinking water from this fountain would not make you grow old. This island is where the fountain will be found. There are no records stating he found either one, but he found other lands. He found the oldest European settlement in Puerto Rico and discovered the Gulf Stream which is the current in the Atlantic.
What I learned
What we have learned about this explorer has been fascinating. Juan Ponce de Leon is a great explore who gave Florida its name. Although, he never found the fountain of Youth or the Island of Bimini, he discovered other new lands. He became the first Governor for Florida and Puerto Rico. He is a successful farmer and raised a family. He discovered the Gulf Stream which is a current in the Atlantic Ocean. Ponce de Leon has made an important discovery that sailors today are still studying and that is how climate changes.

Juan Ponce de Leon came from a noble family, but his family was not rich. His parents died when he was young. Juan found work as a page from a distant relative who is a Spain noblemen named Don Pedro Nunez de Guzman. At the age of 14 or 15, he became Don Pedro's squire. The duties of a squire include taking care of his master's clothing,helping him dress and serving his food. Ponce de Leon was taught to read, write, ride a horse, hunt, and fight with a sword. He became a night.

Juan Ponce de leon had several contributions to the world. He was the first explorer to discover St. Augustine, florida and claimed this place for Spain. Puerto Rico was also another land he found where was returned for his burial.

He discovered the Gulf Stream which is a current in the Atlantic Ocean. He is remembered for searching the land of Bimini or the Fountain of Youth. There are no records stating he found either one.
What I Learned
What I learned about Juan is that he was a decendant to a royal family. So his life was good.
